With the World Cup being co-hosted in the USA and the Bay Area being a host city, you could just tell that this edition would be special. And it seems like the US Men's National Team took that feeling and ran with it.
For the first time since the 1930 World Cup, the USMNT has won consecutive games by a score of 4-1 vs Paraguay and 2-0 vs Australia. This also has lead them to top their group before the last group stage match has concluded, also a historical moment for this team.
Looking back to the last time this had happened the group finished that tournament in 3rd, their best finish ever at a World Cup. Now with them not only starting off like the 1930s team did, but also they won both games by 2+ goals for the 4th and 5th time in their history. What were the other 3 times? 2002 vs Mexico, and both wins they got in 1930.
Now after their last group stage match on the 25th of June, they will be playing their round of 32 game here in the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium (Otherwise known as Levi's Stadium) on July 1st!
Could this USMNT team be a team to follow history or even surpass it? Only time will tell. One thing that can't be denied is that this team is special.
